The CNSC Speaker Series in collaboration with the Ottawa branch of the Canadian Nuclear Society (CNS) are pleased to welcome Mr. Greg Hersak on Friday, May 4th, 2018. Mr. Hersak will be speaking at CNSC headquarters at 280 Slater Street, from 1:00p.m. to 2:30 p.m. in room 14-032.
Mr. Hersak will be delivering a presentation on “Additive Manufacturing in the Nuclear Industry.” Additive manufacturing (more commonly referred to as 3D printing) is rapidly changing the landscape in the manufacturing industry and paving the way for new and innovative design. Components can be printed from an ever-growing array of materials and these printed components are becoming more prominent in end-use applications as the enabling technology is improving. There are several technologies employed and each has advantages and disadvantages. Mr. Hersak from the Canadian Nuclear Laboratories will provide an overview of the additive manufacturing technologies that are employed, as well as the challenges that are encountered when printing and qualifying components. He will also discuss how printed components are currently being employed in the nuclear industry and how this might change the baseline paradigm for the industry in the years to come.
Greg Hersak is the Manager of the Mechanical Equipment Development Branch at the Canadian Nuclear Laboratories in Chalk River. Greg has 16 years of experience in the nuclear industry designing and developing technologies for nuclear applications. He helped with the development of enabling technologies for large-scale CANDU refurbishment including the automated volume reduction press and was a key part of the team that developed the MODAR technology for detecting and repositioning tight-fitting annulus spacers in CANDU fuel channels. More recently, along with a variety of other exciting work, Greg and his Mechanical Equipment Development Branch and other branches in Research and Development at the Canadian Nuclear Laboratories have been developing expertise and innovation in the area of additive manufacturing.
Coffee will be provided by the CNSC, and cookies and muffins will be provided by the CNS. Please feel free to join us for treats and an intriguing presentation. For further information or to RSVP, please contact Haajarah Ahmed (เข้าสู่ระบบติดต่อกัน email@example.com).
